Is this for you?
Membership in our Company is open to anyone 18 years or older with an interest in teaching through reenacting. We are a family friendly group, with a role for everyone. If you are under 18, we do ask that you invite a parent or guardian to join with you.
Our 1812 events are public events, and often we are invited into schools or to special events such as plaque unveilings or commemorations. All Company members should be prepared to be in the public eye during the entire event. They have often paid admission charges, and expect us to behave accordingly. Proper behaviour and military bearing will be part of what you'll be taught as a new member of our unit. There are places where we can get away, but interacting with visitors is part of the fun of what we do. ALL members of the Company, even children, will be expected to help teach our visitors about life in the Regency Era.
Some of our events are day trips, or the Company has decided to participate only on a Saturday. When these events take place, we often set up a company fly as a gathering space. Each person is then responsible for individual food.
Many of our events are over a weekend. Camping is usually available for no cost. You will be asked to eventually obtain a canvas tent (period and rank correct), but many of our sites have space set aside away from the public areas for modern camping. Food in the Company is planned and organized by our Company cook (with help from everyone) We work to serve food that is period correct, but with flavours and quantity up to 21st century standards. We do take groups likes and dislikes into consideration, and food allergies/concerns will be included on a individual basis.
To get started, we will have someone work with you to help you find your way. We don't expect anyone to have funds available right away. If you are interested, please DO NOT purchase anything until you have met with us.
Of course, doing some research into the history of the war, and into the authenticity of your kit is beneficial and can be fun and interesting as well. And you should remember that being in the public eye is an opportunity to be an ambassador of our hobby!
If you are interested in joining us, please contact us at [email protected] or find us on facebook at “Croghan's Company of Reenactors.”
We will arrange to meet and help you get started.
Come join us to keep history alive!
